Introducing Riley Elizabeth Emery

On Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 3:44pm Riley Elizabeth Emery was born.  She weighed in at a whopping 9lbs 6.5ozs and was 20 1/2 inches long.  She is pure perfection.  She has just the sweetest temperament and loves to chew on her hand.

For those who have not experienced a c-section consider yourself very lucky.  This was not an elective option for me since Riley was overdue and estimated at being large.  It has been a painful recovery for the past week and that is what has kept me from updating the blog.  Being alert and awake during the surgery was very scary.  Matt was there to hold my hand which helped immensely.  I couldn't feel pain but could definitely feel pulling and prodding at me.  I felt it when they pulled her out of me too.  Luckily I could see her in the warmer when they brought her out.  The first thing I noticed was her fingers.  She has quite long fingers.  Then I noticed how pink she was.  I thought she would have been blue or yellow or something.  But instead she was pink and perfect.  The surgery lasted about 40 minutes and then I was rolled into the recovery room.  We stayed in the hospital until Sunday afternoon which actually was nice to get so much attention from nurses, doctors, and lactation consultants.  We had a private room and although I was in a lot of pain, we were well taken care of.  It was so wonderful coming home on Easter too.  We had a family Easter dinner where we all got to dote over Riley.

The past week I have been staying in bed and barely walking around.  I can stand for about ten minutes or so before I start to feel pain.  But everyday I feel a bit better and can notice my strength coming back and things are getting easier for me.

Riley only gets fussy when she is hungry for the most part.  What is it about newborns?  I just want to stare at her all day long even though she doesn't really do too much but sleep, poo, pee or eat.  She is just the sweetest.  It's so cool to see the features of both me and Matt in her.  She has my ears and my sharp elbows.  She has Matt's chin and nose.

Here are some pics we have taken and a cute video:

Still Pregnant Part Deux

Yes, still pregnant.  My due date was yesterday.  I had a sonogram last Monday which revealed our "little" girl is not so little after all.  She was estimated at 9lbs 3oz and she is in no hurry to come out.  I was not dilated more than a centimeter so I had to schedule a c-section for this Thursday, April 21st.  If she doesn't come before then, looks like they will take her out by force.  She is already taking after me with my stubborn streak.  So instead of being in labor and/or headed to the hospital on Saturday, we went out for brunch with our family, Matt's parents and soon-to-be first grandparents for my mother-in-law's birthday.  So we will wait and wait some more...until Thursday.

I am really ready to have a baby.  This pregnancy thing is gettin' old.  We are anxiously awaiting our baby girl.  The room is ready, the car seat is installed, the hospital bag is packed...now the baby needs to come!  She's going to be a health girl.  Last sono showed her over 7lbs and that was three weeks ago!  Pregnancy has been wonderful but now I'm ready to start the next phase of life. The waiting is the hardest part!
