A Splendid September/October

September/October was filled with so many wonderful visitors and events.  We had so much fun with Mike Sakraida (Riley's Godfather), Nick Schiavi, the Barfield Family, and my Mom visiting us!  Riley was quite smitten with Mike.  She just thought he was the coolest person ever playing Elmo puppet with her and making her laugh.  We also showed Mike the very best of San Diego which included the Mt. Soledad Memorial and some great breweries in town.  It was a beer fest Emery style which Matt had to be the main tour guide since I cannot partake in the adult beverages at this time.

Then we had Nick come in for the weekend and it was great to see him out this way again.

Donna, Tyler, Brooks and Macy came in town for the weekend and we had so much fun!  Riley got a bit sick so she wasn't able to hang out as much but recovered towards the end of their trip which made for some great photos.

Halloween is a HUGE deal in our neighborhood so we really had to step it up.  My mom came into town because Halloween is one of her favorite events and her trip did not disappoint!  Not only did we have a good group come over for some drinks and food but we also quite the crew of trick-or-treaters with us.  Riley was Boots from Dora the Explorer (her favorite show right now) and it was the cutest costume.  PLUS there was a haunted house a few houses down from us which I heard was incredible.  I did not go but Matt and everyone else said it was insane.

Her reward after a long day

I'm currently 28 weeks now and feeling every kick and jab.  She is a feisty one that likes to act up at night so far (lets hope that changes once she out)!

Also, we have started potty training with Riley.  It's has its ups and downs and we just hope by the time the new baby arrives she will be out of diapers!

Where My Girls At?

What's the latest in the Emery household?  Well, baby #2 is another girl!  Matt will have his hands full with all girls including Hershey!  We are very excited for Riley to have a baby sister.  She is getting the concept of "baby in my tummy" and now points at other womens in public and says baby in tummy too.  Very cute.  She keeps saying boy though despite us many times saying its a girl.  I have had two separate sonograms and have confirmed that it is in fact a girl.

To get Riley ready for school she got her first haircut!  Her hair was getting pretty long so we just trimmed it up so she would stop putting it in her mouth.  She did really well; no issues at all.

Riley started pre-school at Gillispie and we are so happy for her!  She was so excited to show off her new backpack and see the class again.  She only goes twice a week for 4 hours but she is loving it.  The school is amazing and we are so fortunate to be able to have her go there.

She is expressing her independence lately, though.  I guess that comes with the terrible two's.  She may favor Matt in temperament, but every once in a while a bit of Katie comes out! But we take all the good with a little bad once in a while in stride.  She rarely brings out the "Katie" side and who am I to really judge, right?  I basically had the terrible two's for 6 years (just ask my mom...or better yet...don't...you may change your opinion of me afterward)!

Cathy came to visit last week which was super fun!  She got a lot of Riley time and both had a blast finger painting and coloring.

We also got the sitters lined up and went out for some adult time where we showed Cathy how San Diego loves their micro brews.  Plus we caught a Padres game (only stayed for 3 innings) for a bit which was fun as well.  We also went to the San Diego Zoo and Riley loved it.  She really wanted to see the hippos for some reason.  It's amazing how close you can get to the animals there.

I'm currently 20 weeks along and things are going very smoothly.  This pregnancy has been a bit easier and most of the time I'm not feeling pregnant until I look in a mirror and see the bump.  We can't wait to meet our new baby girl and I can't wait to see Riley in her new role as big sister.  So fun!

Long Awaited Post!

Wow!  So I sort of lost track of time and forgot I had a blog!  The last update was Riley's birthday which was in April so I have quite a bit to report on.  We have had a lot of exciting things happening in the Emery household.  First, we MOVED!  At the end of May we moved to a great house in our favorite neighborhood of Birdrock in La Jolla.  This neighborhood is amazing.  There are little lending libraries around and lots of lemonade stands popping up on sunny days.  This is an extremely kid friendly and dog friendly place with houses that have been here for decades.  Some houses, like ours, were rebuilt and sit on very small lots but you give up a yard for the community.  We sit up a bit from the beach so we get an amazing ocean breeze all day so we haven't even turned on our A/C yet!  We are thrilled to have a place out here to call our home.
All packed up and ready to go!

The little park by our new house.

Our View to the Pacific Ocean from the rooftop deck.

And, yes, this is Max.  We apparently came with the house.

So then, literally the weekend we moved in, we were walking down to our local coffee house, Birdrock Coffee Roasters, and I mentioned to Matt that...hmm....maybe we should stop by CVS on the way home for a pregnancy test.  He was like, "Say What?!" Well, with all the other things going on I totally lost track of my, ahem, cycle so yeah...it may have been a while.  So I picked one up and the next morning I did what you do and before I even got out of the bathroom is flashed: PREGNANT...loud and clear.  So there you have it.  Baby #2 is on its way!  I am currently 15 weeks along now and we find out the sex in three weeks!  We are thrilled and can't wait to meet Baby Emery #2 in January!

Well those are the two big announcements but beyond that we have had a great Summer.  My mom visited early into our move and then Matt's parents visited as well.

We have been having a blast enjoying San Diego as always including the beach.  Riley LOVES the beach.  It's her favorite place.

I'm sure there was a lot of other things that occurred in the months since my last post but I hit on the major news so I feel accomplished.  I will be better about it, I promise!  Next post will be on a great little getaway to Ojai!  I can't wait to relax and get pampered!!!
