The Beginning...

How it all started:
September 6, 2003 Katie met Matt in Jacksonville, FL at a friends wedding.  Katie was attending graduate school at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC while Matt was working in Richmond, VA as a financial analyst.  Both were 23 years old and not really looking for a relationship...but you know what they say....'when you aren't looking that's when you find the one you will love'...so that started the long distance love story.
After graduation from App State Katie moved to Harrisburg, PA for a job as a contractor for DoD while Matt headed to New York City to pursue Investment Banking.  Although they weren't 6 hours apart, they were 3 hours.  Both lived pretty independent lives but Katie would travel into to NYC (by car) to visit Matt on the weekends when he was not working.  This was a tough time for the couple as the long distance can wear on even the strongest relationships.

Luckily, Katie got a job in NYC in April of 2005 so they could finally live in the same city!  Katie moved into a great sublet on 33rd and 8th Ave which is right across the street from Madison Square Garden.  She lived with some randoms but they were all really nice and there were no scary stories to report.  Her view was amazing:

So after Matt's lease was up and Katie's sublet was done, they finally moved in together.  They got a cute...quaint...cozy apartment in the West Village..which is a very...well..eclectic neighborhood of NYC.

But we lived it up on NYC.  It was a wonderful experience but one that wouldn't last forever.

In June of 2006 Matt proposed to Katie in Central Park...just a few weeks before they would be moving to Washington, DC.
DC was a much better fit both professionally and personally for both Katie and Matt.  It was the right place for them.  Although they have moved three times (Silver Spring, MD to Bethesda, MD to Chevy Chase, MD) they loved the 'burbs of DC.
So the two got married, bought a house, got a dog, and have a baby on the way.

So what's next for the two?  Stay tuned...there is more to the story.

Room for Our Addition

We just got done decorating the babies room!  We decided to go with a "forest friends" theme instead of of going all pinky pink.  We figured plenty of pink will come in time.  It was so much fun getting the room ready. Hershey had to pose for us in her new sweater too....she just loves the camera. Enjoy the pics!

Comes in Threes perhaps?

So another scare for the Emery household.  On Tuesday another ice storm came to the DC area.  Matt and Katie both get up uber early so Matt was headed to the cars to scrape and defrost.  Katie's car was not defrosting too well so Matt just headed to the gym in Bethesda while Katie took over.  When Matt left he left the car slightly on so air would continue to defrost the windshield.  So when Katie got in the car she tried to turn it all the way on and it went.....RRRRRRRR stop. And then some lights on the dashboard came on.  So doing the regular girl thing....she pressed the start button a few more times.  Then the brake pad would not go down (which is required to turn the car on). So in a panic, Katie calls Matt to let him know the car is not working.  So Katie just left the car and went back into the house.  But then...after 5 minutes she decided to try the car again and luckily it started!  So off she went to work.  Driving really really slowly through the neighborhood Katie got to Kensington Parkway to make a left and as a law abiding citizen that she is she tries to stop at the stop sign...but wait...the brake pad won't go down!  The car won't stop!  So Katie is just driving straight across the street with no stopping.  She saw a man walking so she beeped her horn so she wouldn't hit him!  She could not press the brake pad!  Luckily she wasn't going fast at all and the car stopped on its own and no cars were coming (it was 6:40am by the way).  So Katie who is shaking and trembling turned the car around and parked that sucker back at home!  Matt had to drop her off at work.  What the eff?  How can a brand new car act so weird?

So Hershey gets loose....bad weather with no power....and brake pads fail....we are due for some good luck now....please?
